Jim was Director of Marketing and Sales for the Technology Products Group at Dataquest (a high technology marketing research company) and Vice President of Sales for Power Up Software Corporation (a consumer software products manufacturer). He held management positions with Qume Corporation, GP Technologies, Xidex Magnetics, and Wabash Tape Corporation.

Jim is co-author with David Aaker, PhD of the Instructor's Manual for David Aaker's Strategic Market Management, 6th Edition, published 2002 by John Wiley & Sons and the 7th Edition, published in 2004.

He is an adjunct faculty member at the School of Business at the University of San Francisco where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate marketing courses.

Jim is a popular instructor at the University of California Berkeley Extension where he also served as Academic Coordinator for the Marketing Diploma Program. He was the lead instructor for a live, 4-part television program entitled Small Business Success Series.

Jim is a former President of the Northern California Chapter of the National Speakers Association and is a former Vice President of the San Francisco Chapter of the American Marketing Association. He served on the committee for the AMA International Business-to-Business Marketing Conference held in San Francisco.
